Be mentored with SOW Leadership
In the 2022 school year, WayPoint Youth is taking the next step in giving students a greater voice in what we do at youth group, and how we go about it! In the past year, students have been given increased responsibilities in the areas of games, announcements, and even worship leading. At WayPoint, we want to push this concept further.
Starting this fall, we will officially be forming a student leadership team, called Students Of WayPoint Leadership (SOW or SOW Leadership).
What is SOW Leadership?
SOW Leadership is an intential and challenging mentorship program that uses youth ministry as a vessel for discipleship and leadership development of students. SOW Leadership for students who want to be closely discipled and raised up in accordance with our mission statement: Glorifying God through walking with and building up students. Initially, SOW will be open only to High School aged students. Students who apply are required to be active and honest in their followership of Christ, and be able to briefly explain what it means to be saved, and who Jesus is. Students are also required to have been baptized, or have plans to be baptized if they haven't (it should be scheduled).
SOW Leadership will consist of weekly meetings outside of the regular youth group meetings (we'll pick a time based on when students are available). Students will spend half of this meeting in in-depth Bible Study with adult leaders where they can ask questions and be challenged. Students may also be given additional reading materials or assignments to keep them challenged and growing in their faith. The remainder of the meeting will consist of students separating into teams that plan and execute specific aspects of youth group, such as hospitality, worship production, games & activities, and social media outreach. Students who are interested will also have opportunities to learn how to teach and speak under close direction from their mentors.

A Commitment & A Sacrifice
We are looking for students who are willing to make this a major commitment. For us, this means that it will be a high priority, over other commitments such as school sports and other extra curricular activities. SOW Leaders must commit to weekly meetings, and Monday night youth groups.. We realize the value and importance of extracurricular clubs and sports, but we also want to make sure that we do not under-sell the importance of what we are offering. We believe that hands-on discipleship with SOW Leadership will bear abundant fruit in your student’s life. When students transition into adulthood, their development as followers of Christ will be the single most important aspect of their adolescence.
